Epithalon is a 4-amino-acid peptide (Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Glycine), also known by the sequence AEDG.
Epithalon was developed through the work of Russian researcher Vladimir Khavinson and his colleagues, who spent decades studying peptide bioregulation, aging, and pineal function.
One of the most interesting areas of Epithalon research involves telomeres, the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that help protect DNA and naturally shorten as cells divide.
Laboratory studies using human cells have shown that Epithalon can activate telomerase, an enzyme involved in maintaining telomeres, and may increase telomere length in certain cell cultures.
Because telomeres are closely connected to cellular aging, this has made Epithalon one of the better-known peptides in longevity research.
Epithalon has also been investigated in animal models of aging and longevity. Some studies have reported increases in certain lifespan measures, although these findings are preclinical and have not established a lifespan-extending effect in humans.
Another major area of research involves the pineal gland.
Because of its connection to pineal function, Epithalon has been studied in areas involving melatonin, circadian rhythm, sleep-wake signaling, cellular aging, and longevity.
EPITHALON + PINEALON
Epithalon and Pinealon are often discussed together because they came from the same broader Russian peptide-research tradition.
Epithalon research is focused more heavily on the pineal gland, telomeres, cellular aging, and longevity-related pathways.
Pinealon research is focused more heavily on brain cells, cognitive aging, and cellular protection.
